Rosanne Lang: Encircled by Family

Even in a family of 12 siblings, Rosanne Lang stood out.

"She danced the longest, sang the loudest B even though she couldn't carry a tune B and she loved the fiercest," said her brother, Gerard.

At 42, Ms. Lang was an equities trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, a job that afforded her a nicely landscaped home with a pool in Middletown, N.J., and a share, with two siblings, in a beach house in Sea Bright, N.J.

She was the first girl after her parents had six sons. They grew up in Brooklyn, but eventually most of them, including the parents, Rose and William, ended up in the Middletown area. Ms. Lang moved to Los Angeles with her husband and infant son, Michael, but after a divorce, she moved to New Jersey, and forged a life for herself and Michael, now 17, surrounded by family.

"Rosanne was a self-made, successful woman," said William Lang, the oldest of her 11 siblings, who also lives in Middletown. "She was successful in spite of the fact that we all had our preconceived notions about her. After all, she had six older brothers. She was this amazing woman, always smiling."

The Lang family experienced a double tragedy on Sept. 11: William Lang's son, Brendan, 30, also died.

Rosanne - my God, how much could I say in such a short space. Beauty, not just physical, but of the soul; generousity, not of the wallet, but of the heart; caring, not just for loved ones, but for total strangers.

My sister was, and still is, my inspiration - my respect and love for you can never be diminished by the cowards who did this to you.

You helped me to follow my heart, to find myself, I owe you more than I could ever repay.....

Dear Sister,
It is almost Christmas 2004. I know you and Brendan are in a far better place away from all the strife in this world. I have written a poem with you in mind and hope that everyone who reads it will find it in their hearts to forgive. Rest in peace. Love,
Gary
The Greatest Gifts

We gather on Christmas with family and friends,
Basking in the glow of love that extends,
From our hearts we believe, or maybe pretend.
While our feelings for others, we oft time defend.

But somehow we feel, this gathering’s not right.
Someone is missing, who should be with us this night.
And if you search in the darkness, there you’ll find light.
For the healing begins when all hearts are contrite.

Whatever the reason, no matter what you believe,
The world is one family that God alone did conceive.
Extend then your arms to those lost and receive,
God’ s true intention, on the first Christmas Eve.

It was the gathering of strangers to witness a birth,
Both peasant and king, no different in worth.
To a Child they paid homage, containing their mirth,
On the night God gave, a special gift to the earth.

And this Child would walk, among us and live,
His life later on, for us He would give.
From manger to the cross, if each day we relive,
We’d feel His greatest gifts; to love and forgive.

Dear Sister,
It's hard to believe it's been 4 years. Today was a beautiful day, as it was 4 years ago when you and Brendan left us. Pray for us all left behind and pray especially for the healing of our hearts. I miss you and love....until we meet again.
