I went to school with Darryl and he was a beautiful person. I still can't believe that he is gone. I saw him recently and it just doesn't seem real. It is really not fair, he wasonly 26 years old. He was an excellent basketball payer and an incredibly funny guy. He had the greatest talent of making people laugh. I will miss his smile, his jokes, his bow-legs and just a wonderful friend. Rest in peace.

Yes, Darryl was always someone willing to make you smile. What a guy! You and your family will be in my prayers and thoughts daily.

My mother was raised on Stebbins Ave, in the Bronx. It was there, more than 60 years ago that the McKinneys became a part of her life. Rev. & Mrs. McKinney of Caldwell Church were my mother's godparents, mentors and friends. Sidney McKinney, Darryl's grandfather, remains in contact with my family although we left New York more than 25 years ago and now live in Southern California. When my daughter graduated from Vassar College in May of 2001, my mother and I visited with Sidney before we headed to Poughkeepsie for the ceremoney. He was so proud of Darryl and his accomplishments. He shared many of his family pictures and family stories. We were all proud that day. Proud that Darryl had made such a success of his life. I never met Darryl. But I know how much he was loved by his grandfather. I know life will never be the same for the McKinney family. And my heart aches for his mother and everyone who knew and loved him.
