'I Have to Stay'

When Frank Doyle came home from his job on Wall Street, he would play
with his two young children and get them to bed. Only then did Mr.
Doyle pull on his running shoes, go outside and run hills in his
Englewood, N.J., neighborhood to train for triathlons.

"He was a tremendous athlete," said Kimmy Chedel, his wife of four
years. The couple ran their first triathlon together on Aug. 5.

Ms. Chedel said she met Mr. Doyle on an evening cruise of New York
Harbor for college alumni of his school, Bowdoin College in Maine, and
her school, Middlebury College in Vermont. His name tag fell off and
stuck to her shoe. "I said, "Who is Frank Doyle?' " she said. "He came
over when he heard his name. It was love at first sight."

Mr. Doyle, 39, who was head of equity trading at Keefe, Bruyette &
Woods, called his wife after terrorists struck the World Trade Center's
north tower. "I have to stay," he said. After the south tower, which
contained Mr. Doyle's office, was struck, he called her again, saying that
he and many others were trapped. "He very calmly said, `We need your
help,' " Ms. Chedel said. "Up to the last minute of his life, he was a team
player."
