Cmdr. Robert Edward Dolan, 43, of Fordham Park, N.J., who commanded the destroyer USS John Hancock at Mayport Naval Station before the ship was decommissioned last fall, was among about 190 people reported by the Pentagon as being missing in the attack. Dolan, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981, worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff until taking over the helm of the Hancock in 1999. After the ship was decommissioned, he returned to the Pentagon. Dolan and his wife, Lisa, bought a home in April at Ponte Vedra Beach, where they planned to live there when Dolan retired, said G.P. Holcombe, who lives next door.
